I take so much with me... the ability to see historical interpersonal dynamics with fresh eyes... The sense of safety and care that existed inside the corral, nurtured both by Charlene and Burusca, made it feel like the most natural thing in the world to access my deepest feelings without any judgement of them. The horse's presence acted as both an encouragement to understand the inner story I was exploring in beautiful, unexpected ways, as well as a presence upon whom I could project the most hopeful, natural, restorative elements of that story. She was like an element of magical realism: tied in some ways to the undeniable hard physicality of the real world, as well as being a conduit for deep intuitive impulses. The invitation that Healing Horses makes —to be in touch with unexpected connections to the natural world, to animals and the environment, to see one's story through a more open hearted lens—is powerful in any life stage, whether actively engaged in struggle or not. I absolutely recommend it.
